If you hadn't figured it out by now, I want to be a published author.
I love books.
I love writing.
Enough said, right?
Unfortunately, in the writing world, it takes more than a love of writing and a love of books to get you published.
Some things like, (1) Determination, (2) Patience, (3) Professionalism, (4) Grammar skills won't hurt, (5) Money, if you are going to a writers conference-- which I highly recommend but never done. I haven't got the money part yet. ;) (6) oh yeah, and don't forget to write either, AND (7) having an audience. No, you haven't gotten published yet, but, yes, having an audience is good.
If you have an audience now it means that right now have someone to sell your story too. It means you already are self promoting, it means you're already trying... you're already getting in practice for when you have a 'real' purpose for blogging/tweeting/self promoting.
The last few weeks I've been trying to do get better at self promoting. I get a twitter account (@naomihdowing), and I have a pinterest account (naomiwrites), and I have a Facebook page.
I use them now, (okay, not really my Facebook page yet) but I'm trying to get an audience because then when I am selling my book, whether to editors/agents or an actual paper back I can say, I have THIS many followers. :)
What are you doing to get prepared?
